Massachusetts vital records–FREE at your library!

Did you see this week’s Boston Globe article about a new collection of Massachusetts vital records in the Ancestry database?  The Library subscribes to Ancestry, so these new records are free for anyone to use at the library.

Thanks to Jay and DeLene Holbrook, who personally visited each of 315 (out of 351) cities and towns in the state of Massachusetts, approximately 17 million birth, marriage and death records are being digitized.  Ancestry has already digitized over 9 million of these records and placed them online.

To see if these records might be useful, you can search (but not view) the collection here.

And if you’re doing family research, you might also enjoy our genealogy blog!
