Want more variety when listening to music on your computer?  Newton residents have access at home to several music databases offering many choices, and with most you can set up an account to create and save your own playlists:

Smithsonian Global Sound (our “Database of the Month” for December)
Home Access | In Library Access
American folk, blues, bluegrass, old time country, American Indian, world music, jazz, spoken word & sounds, and children’s music.

African American Sound
Home Access | In Library Access
American folk, blues, jazz, gospel, ragtime, sacred, spoken word & sounds, stage & screen.

American Song 
Home Access | In Library Access
Songs by and about American Indians, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys. Included in the database are the songs of Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, anti-war protests, poetry, and more.

Classical Music Library
Home Access | In Library Access
Chamber music, instrumental, orchestral, opera, vocal, sacred music, and more.

Naxos Music Library
Home Access | In Library Access
Predominantly classical and world music, but also including jazz, blues, and other genres, and including spoken word and relaxation music.

Please note:  Home access for these databases is available only to Newton residents with a Newton library card number beginning 21323.
